Is your TV ready for digital?
Stations will stop using analog signals on Feb. 17On Feb. 17, 2009, TV stations will stop using an analog signal and start broadcasting only in digital. Your television needs to be ready so that you can keep watching your favorite TV channels. Digital Television (DTV) will offer improved picture and sound quality and for many people, along with additional free programming. If your TV is ready, you can benefit from DTV right now.
Currently all TV broadcasts are now in analog and digital formats, but after Feb. 17, TV stations will only use digital broadcasts. Why digital? Because digital technology works more efficiently. Digital takes less air space than analog technology.
As part of the DTV changes, more space is now being made available for important public safety needs, such as local police, fire and emergency rescue communications.
DTV also provides more programming options, because in the same amount of space that stations use to broadcast one analog channel, they can broadcast several digital channels.
What should you do to prepare for the DTV changes and make sure you can keep your favorite channels and programs? Most people don’t have to worry — their TVs are already compatible — but for those who need to make changes, there are simple steps that you can take right now.
