What is the digital TV
(DTV) transition?
The change from analog to digital TV is called the DTV transition. In 1996, Congress authorized the creation of an additional broadcast channel to each TV station so that they could start a digital broadcast channel while continuing to use an analog broadcast.
Congress passed legislation stating Feb 17, 2009 would be
last day for
full-power TV
stations to use an analog broadcast. This was later pushed back to June 12, 2009. Some TV channels have already switched to digital, and all TV
channels will be broadcast in digital transmission after June 12.
